TITANIC THE MUSICAL IN CONCERT

On the 14th April 1912 the passenger liner Titanic hit an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the Atlantic. Exactly 100 years later York Musical Theatre Company presents a concert performance of the Tony Award winning TITANIC THE MUSICAL, which follows the stories of the people on board from the triumphant moment of setting sail to the final tragedy.

Our company received great critical acclaim in 2004 for TITANIC’S UK premiere at the York Theatre Royal. Join members of that original cast with full chorus and orchestra for an unforgettable evening.

Our own Stephen Sorby, who played Harold Bride the Radio Operator in the original UK premiere, is returning for this special Gala performance to play Wallace Hartley, the Bandmaster. Come and support Stephen and the cast and enjoy a magical night on the waves….

Sunday 12th Feb – as well as our 10am Communion Service we will be running a separate children’s workshop in the hall to prepare for the Family Service the following week in which children will play their special part and materials they have created will be used. The theme is `All You Need is Love’. We all start together in the church – and we all end up back there for the last bit of the service and refreshments. All are very welcome. Even if you can’t make it to the Family Service your children are still welcome at the workshop this week. (Of course, children who didn’t make the workshop can still take part in the Family Service.)

Family Matters York Toddler Training Parenting Course with creche. 9.30-10.45 Tues Jan 24 & 31

Caring for young children can be fun but exhausting and we sometimes wonder if we and they are doing OK!

We are running a short Family Matters York ”Positive Parenting” toddler training course at St Thomas’ on Tuesday mornings of the 24th and 31st Jan at 9.30 – 10.45. These are for all parents, grandparents and carers of children under 4. Those attending previous courses have found them to be really useful and fun.

There is a creche provised for children in the church hall while the adults attend the sessions.

Theme for February 19th Mothering Sunday Family Service is LOVE

In preparation for February 19th Family Service we are theming the children’s work on Love. All children’s work takes place during the morning service at 10 am

Jan 22nd The Prodigal Son – The Father loved his Son so much. God loves us very much too.

Jan 29th David and Jonathan – Love between friends

February 5th – The Good Samaritan -Loving and serving others

February 12th – Children’s workshop in the church hall. The 1st 2 commandments – All You Need is LOVE

February 19th – All Age Family Service: Al You Need is LOVE

Hi guys! Hope you are all well and settling back ok after Christmas! Cannot wait to see you again this Sunday for the first Tea and Toast of the term.We will be in the Church hall for most of this term as we are expecting to have some new International students (some who Phil, Kev and I met last night at a YSJ international welcome!) including the new group of Calvin students.Also please do add anyone you want to this group!

If any of you feel like coming down and helping me set up/having a quick catch up at 3.30 on Sunday that would be really helpful? Let me know!

Tea and Toast for students gets going again this Sunday (29th Jan) 4-6pm. All students are very welcome. If you have just arrived in York from another part of the world you are especially welcome to come and relax together.

Hannah (Parish Assistant) and Phil (vicar and member of chaplaincy team) lost count of the number of places people had come from at Thursday’s International Student reception at St John’s: Canada, France, Spain, Pakistan, India, Norway, Sri Lanka and USA were among them! We hope you have a great semester and it’d be great to see you at Tea and Toast. You’re also very welcome to join us at our Sunday morning service (10am).
